A hands-on, drop-in co-working space designed for faculty who want dedicated, protected time to work on their course design and digital accessibility updates. Whether you are currently participating in the semester-long Title II program or simply working independently, this space offers peer camaraderie and direct access to instructional design support.

Attendance is flexible, attend as many or as few sessions as your schedule allows (just let us know ahead of time).

Need uninterrupted time to finish course prep, draft rubrics, or get through grading? Teaching Focus Hours offers a dedicated, distraction-free space to turn intention into finished work—right alongside your colleagues.

This is a high-focus, low-distraction work session modeled after writing accountability groups. We spend 10 minutes setting goals, 60 minutes in silent focus, and 5 minutes wrapping up. A strict, predictable rhythm allows you to enter and leave as your schedule allows without disrupting your colleagues.

This 5-part series is for instructors who want dedicated work time to work with ChatGPT to build out aspects of their course. Each session is a structured working studio where faculty revise their own course materials and receive peer feedback.

Teaching labs are Wednesdays from 12:00-1:30, if you are interested and cannot commit to the full time, you are still welcome to attend.

• September 23rd: Writing a clear and equitable AI syllabus statements
• October 7th: Motivating students to use AI for learning
• October 21st: Designing assignments and instructions for AI use
• November 4th: Clarifying expectations and alternative grading structures
• November 18th: Using AI for practice, feedback partnering and role-play

Book that we will be reading is Radical Hope: A Teaching Manifesto by Kevin Gannon, historian and educational developer. 

Elevate your teaching skills, expand your understanding of teaching in higher education and connect with other interested graduate students. Open to any and all graduate students – no teaching experience is required. The book will be provided to you at no cost.

Meetings will be co-facilitated discussions that will explore connections between your own teaching and learning experiences and the topics covered in the book. We will grapple with questions such as: How can we signal to our students that they are welcome in our classrooms? How can we create equitable and accessible learning environments for all students? How might you make a syllabus less technical and more digestible? What is my role as an instructor?

Past participants always share how beneficial these conversations and community are to their own development as scholars and teachers.

But what we hear time and again is that this program is worth it. It’s not about being evaluated—it’s about connecting with colleagues, seeing new possibilities, and focusing on the aspects of teaching you care about most. You decide what you want feedback on and how you want to grow as an instructor.

Fall Meeting Schedule

This learning community will equip you with the foundational knowledge and practical tools needed to ensure your courses meet the Title II federal accessibility requirements. Across seven biweekly sessions, you’ll get dedicated instructional support, informative discussions, content delivery, and structured time between sessions to apply what you’ve learned directly to your own course. On alternate weeks, an optional working session will be provided with dedicated instructional design support and accountability if desired.

Alternate Tuesdays from 10:00-11:00am starting September 15th; in-person*

During the program you will:

• Prioritize your course goals,
• Build accessibility skills,
• Explore different approaches to creating/remediating accessible course content,
• Brainstorm solutions to new problems,
• Leave with at least one course that is fully (or close to fully) accessible.

*Anyone who is interested in a remote alternative to this program can arrange for regularly scheduled one-on-one support from an instructional designer. You will be able to achieve the same goals.

The Graduate Teaching Academy (GTA) is a semester-long learning community for those interested in preparing for careers that involve teaching, inside and outside of academia. The GTA, which is open to ALL graduate students and post-docs, is a place for learning about effective teaching practices and strategies, connecting with peers, and developing your own understandings about the purpose of higher education.

Faculty are reporting a growing gap in how students read, study, take notes, and manage their own learning. This seven-session lunch and learn series is designed to address this gap directly, one skill at a time. Each session includes brief pre-work (a short podcast or article sent a week in advance) so we can start each hour from a shared foundation and move quickly to discussion and your teaching.  

Sessions stand alone, so come to one or all seven.  Registration is required.
