The Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) is a systematic approach of investigating teaching and learning in higher education. SoTL involves the formation of a specific research questions, collecting data and evidence with appropriate methodologies, data analysis and dissemination of results to the public. Distinct about SoTL is emphasis on improving teaching and/or learning. While scholarly teaching is the personal reflexive act of inquiry into one’s own teaching, SoTL involves original research questions and the dissemination of research results with a broader audience.

TA preparation, mentoring, anti-oppressive and decolonial pedagogies, and critical approaches that examine how we make present and negotiate our identities and power relations in learning situations.

I am interested in investigating the effects of CURE laboratory modules, ungrading, and metacognition on student belonging, growth-mindset, and self-directed learning.

What are your SoTL interests?
Identifying student needs and the impact of the teaching methods being used to create learning experiences for students that fits their evolving and emerging needs while grounding education in foundational knowledge and skills. STEM is an evolving and shifting field, how do we support students’ learning for the emergent technologies to come.

What are your SoTL interests?
My current SoTL project asks the question: does demonstrating real-world relevance across academic disciplines lead to increased motivation for studying chemistry and improve student self-efficacy and attitudes in chemistry?

Project: “Teaching through Eco-Crises: Using Experience Sampling Methodology to Align Eco-Emotions, Environmental Curriculum, and Student Wellbeing”
What are your SoTL interests?
I’m interested in studying socio-emotional experiences in students and faculty who are part of environmental programs that often encounter difficult course content (e.g., biodiversity loss, climate change, environmental injustice). My goal is to gain a better understanding of how teachers and students can attend to the emotional aspects of environmental education and persist in the workforce long-term.
