Strong
Welcome to Strong!

The town of Strong was incorporated in 1801 and named after former Massachusetts Governor Caleb Strong. The town thrived thanks to its fertile soil and abundant forests for lumber, and was later boosted by the coming of the Sandy River Railroad that passed through town. The Strong Wood Products Incorporated factory located in town was once the world’s leading producer of toothpicks. Strong was also home to Maine’s first cheese factory!
