Just in time for the scary season, the hosts of a popular film podcast are coming to Orono on October 19 to discuss a pair of iconic movies adapted from the works of the Master of Horror himself, Stephen King.

Millie De Chirico and Danielle Henderson are the co-hosts of the popular film podcast . They will be at the IMRC Center to engage with the films Pet Sematary and Misery. De Chirico and Henderson will talk attendees through the films with clips and commentary, followed by a discussion and Q&A session.

The event is scheduled for 3:30-5:30 PM on October 19 in the FernaldAdaptive Presentation & Performance Environment, located in Room 104 in the IMRC. Hosting the event will be professor of English Jennifer Moxley and interdisciplinary PhD student and intermedia artist Sean Lopez. It is made possible with the support of the Stephen E. King Chair in Literature and the McGillicuddy Humanities Center.

Started in 2020, I Saw What You Did is distributed by Exactly Right Media. Since then, De Chirico and Henderson have been bringing their intelligent, irreverent takes on movies to listeners all over the world.

The description says it all:

“Millie and Danielle, a film expert and a film enthusiast, program a double-feature of their favorite movies with a different wild theme every week. Join these friends as they dissect the films and explore the weird ways we respond to and learn to love movies.”

Jennifer Moxley extended the invitation to De Chirico and Henderson after learning of the pair’s affinity for King’s work and realizing that they could really help students see the connection between loving movies and thinking critically about them.

“I got the idea to bring theI Saw What You Didpodcasters Millie De Chirico and Danielle Henderson to the University of Maine after listening to an episode in which they talked about how much they loved Stephen King,” said Moxley. “I thought to myself: these two smart, funny, irreverent women could help our students see how being a movie fanand analyzing films can go hand in hand. They make critical thinking about film approachable and fun.”

Danielle Henderson is a TV writer (Maniac, Divorce, Dare Me, and more), a retiredfreelance writer, and a former editor for Rookie. A book based on her popular website,Feminist Ryan Gosling, was released by Running Press in August 2012. Her memoir,The Ugly Cry, was published by Viking in June 2021. Currently she’s a show-runner forThe Other Black Girl.

Filipina-American Millie De Chirico worked as a programmer for TCM Underground for 18years and recently released a book she co-wrote called TCM Underground: 50 Must-See Films from the World of Classic Cult and Late-Night Cinema.

Join these podcasters as they dig into two of the most celebrated film adaptations of Stephen King’s work, bringing their own unique perspectives to the conversation even as they invite audience members to share thoughts of their own.

In this performance-based workshop, we will explore the characters ofOthello, and the ways in which they “Other” one another. How do race, gender, religion, and class function in the play, and what can we learn by getting on our feet and exploring some scenes from one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies together? We will dig into the meaning of the text by considering its metrical and rhetorical components, and then move out to the broader context of performingOthelloin today’s environs. No need to read anything in advance. Just come ready to play and to be played to by professional actor Cordell Cole and American Shakespeare Center education director, Sarah Enloe. Note: Due to the mature subject matter of the play, this workshop is not recommended for children under the age of 14.
