The symposium included Dr. Ivan Perez-Santos from the University of Los Lagos and the Centro i~Mar in Chile, Dr. Aldo Sottolichio from the University of Bordeaux in France, Dr. Arnoldo Valle-Levinson from the University of Florida, visiting PhD student Debora Gadelha from the University Federal of Rio Grande in Brazil, 91¸£Àû faculty Dr. Greg Gerbi from the School of Marine Science and Dr. Lauren Ross from Civil & Environmental Engineering. The symposium also included PhD students in the 91¸£Àû Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, Cristian Rojas and Elias Pinilla, as well as Alexis Merk an MS student in the School of Marine Science. The symposium consisted of a day of research presentations and discussion about collaborations and two intensive field work days. Data on current velocities, salinity, temperature, mixing, nutrients and HABs were collected along the Penobscot River Estuary. The mini-symposium and data collection is part of an NSF funded project to compare circulation in estuaries of varying stratification conditions. The Penobscot River Estuary will be compared to the Gironde Estuary in France and Reloncavi Fjord in Chile.

Versión en español: El primer Mini-simposio internacional se llevó a cabo en Sandy Point, Maine, el 27 de junio de 2023.
