On this trail, you can see the old tracks and the remains of the steam engine. Located in western Maine, this section of the famous East Coast trail travels more than 50 miles northeast from the Saddleback Range to the Bigelow Range, and features some of the most rugged, varied hiking in New England.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/newengland.com\/today\/travel\/maine\/gulf-hagas-the-incredible-grand-canyon-of-maine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Gulf Hagas the \u201cGrand Canyon of Maine\u201d<\/strong><\/a><em> Brownville, ME\u00a0<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This beautiful slate gorge features waterfalls and towering rock walls. At the Gulf Hagas trailhead is a quote from 1995 by the Appalachian Trail ridge runner, Ron Curtis that says, \u201cGulf Hagas is an unknown area to many folks, and it belongs to everyone. Everyone should see it to foster the feelings of protecting an everlasting wild place.\u201d The hike is a moderately difficult 9-mile trail. The trail consists of lots of waterfalls and swimming holes, and the amazing Screw Auger Falls.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maine.gov\/cgi-bin\/online\/doc\/parksearch\/details.pl?park_id=18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mount Blue State Park<\/a><\/strong><em>\u00a0Weld, ME 04285\u00a0| (207) 585-2347<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open year-round, Mt. Blue State Park is a beautiful attraction including all sorts of outdoor&nbsp;activities like hiking, trail riding, biking, swimming and picnicking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/kennebecvalley.org\/story\/moxie-falls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Moxie Falls<\/strong><\/a><em> 503 Lake Moxie Rd, West Forks, ME 04985<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This is Maine\u2019s highest and most easily accessible waterfall with a 100-foot drop, located down a short path. If you follow the stream, you\u2019ll also find a great swimming and fishing hole.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mainetrailfinder.com\/trails\/trail\/grafton-notch-state-park-old-speck-mountain-and-eyebrow-loop\">Old Speck Mountain<\/a> <\/strong><em>Oxford County<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;The western portion of Grafton Notch State park offers two advanced hiking trails that offer excellent views of the mountain range and challenging terrain. Old Speck ( aka Old Speckle ) has an elevation of 4170&#8242; and is located just east of the North Hampshire border. Old Speck is Maines 4th highest mountain range and Maine&#8217;s 5th highest peak. Old Speck is home to miles of hiking trails and many places to backpack and camp.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/cgi-bin\/online\/doc\/parksearch\/details.pl?park_id=25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Rangeley Lake State Park<\/strong><\/a><em>1 State Park Rd, Rangeley Plt, ME 04970 | (207) 864-3858<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rangeley Lake State Park offers a large campsite, picnic area, playground, as well as beach and boat access to the stunning Rangeley Lake. This is a beloved destination all year round and a great base for exploring all the Rangeley area has to offer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newenglandwaterfalls.com\/me-rattlesnakeflumeandpool.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Rattlesnake Flume and Pool<\/strong><\/a><em> Shell Pond Road, Stow, ME 04037<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cVisualize a lagoon-like pool with a romantic spirit and you will picture something similar to Rattlesnake Pool.\u201d Although this pool is cold all year round, it is a popular destination for folks from all over due to its clean, teal-green colored water, and surrounding forest.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mainetoday.com\/maine-travel\/mini-adventure-grafton-notch-state-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Screw Auger Falls<\/strong><\/a><em> Grafton Notch State Park<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One of Maine\u2019s most popular waterfalls. There is a relatively short trail to the waterfall, which is a beautiful 25-foot plunge into the Bear River that goes into more shallow pools. Past this, also in Grafton Notch, is the smaller <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waterfall-picture-guide.com\/mother-walker-falls.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mother Walker Falls<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitpost.org\/tumbledown-mountain\/196800\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Tumbledown Pond<\/strong><\/a><em> Byron Road, Weld, ME 04285<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Located on top of Tumbledown Mountain is Tumbledown Pond, which is known to be the most outstanding part of the mountain.
