Built in 1872, it is a 100-foot structure that goes across the Sunday River. The \u201cartist\u201d of the bridge is John Enneking, one of America\u2019s first impressionists, who was seen painting at this bridge so often that locals began referring to the bridge as the \u201cArtist\u2019s Bridge.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/harpswellmaine.org\/cribstone-bridge\/\"><strong>Cribstone Bridge<\/strong><\/a> (Bailey Island bridge) <em>Harpswell Islands Rd, Bailey Island, ME 04003<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1,167 foot long bridge made of 10,000 tons of granite <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Built in 1928, this bridge connects Bailey island to Orr&#8217;s Island<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Considered an engineering marvel, it is reported to be the only bridge of it&#8217;s kind in the world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/mdot\/historicbridges\/coveredbridges\/bennettbridge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Bennett Bridge<\/strong><\/a><em>Littlehale Rd, Lincoln Plt, ME 03579<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Built in 1901, this 93-foot long covered bridge spans the Magalloway River near Wilson\u2019s Mills and the Lincoln Plantation. It was partially built by Horace Bennett and Fred Taylor in 1898 and was finished by the Mason Brothers, a bridge construction group from Bethel. It was closed to traffic in 1985 but it is still a nice place to walk around.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maine.gov\/mdot\/historicbridges\/coveredbridges\/hemlockbridge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Hemlock Bridge<\/strong><\/a><em>Hemlock Bridge Rd, Fryeburg, ME 04037<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The historic Hemlock Bridge was built in 1857 and is one of few remaining wooden covered bridges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/mdot\/historicbridges\/coveredbridges\/lovejoybridge\/#prettyPhoto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Lovejoy Bridge<\/strong><\/a><em>Andover, ME 04216<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Here is Maine\u2019s shortest covered bridge at 70 feet long. It was built in 1868 and covers the Ellis River. This bridge had its fair share of unfortunate events. In 1936, the waters were high while two boys were canoeing near the bridge. The water was about 2 inches below the bottom of the bridge, so the boys paddled up next to the bridge hoping the bridge would hold up the canoe. Instead, they were sucked under and thrown from the canoe, but luckily a passing local guide was able to rescue them. In 1983, a heavy sand truck fell through the deck of the bridge while trying to cross. Fortunately, they decided to reinforce the bridge in 1984.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/mdot\/historicbridges\/coveredbridges\/lowesbridge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Lowe\u2019s Bridge<\/strong><\/a><em>Lowe\u2019s Bridge Road, Guilford, ME 04443<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This unique bridge stretches across the Piscataquis River. It was built in 1857 but was washed away in the flood of April 1, 1987. A replica of the bridge was built over the original in 1990 to withhold stronger weather and larger loads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Porter-Parsonsfield_Bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Parsonsfield-Porter Covered Bridge<\/strong><\/a><em>51 Kezar Mountain Rd, Parsonsfield, ME 04047<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This fine example of an old covered bridge, one of the few remaining in Maine, spans the Ossipee River between Porter and Parsonsfield just east of Route 160.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ryefield_Bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Ryefield Bridge<\/strong><\/a><em>W Andrew Hill Rd, Otisfield, ME 04270<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This historic bridge crossing the Crooked River, which is still in use today, is the last remaining suspension bridge of the Warren truss design in Maine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/places\/wire-bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Wire Bridge<\/strong><\/a><em>Wire Bridge Road, New Portland, ME 04961<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This wire-supported bridge stretching across the Carrabassett River may be the last of its kind in the world. At the time of its creation in 1866, there were four in Maine, but the other three have since been destroyed.
