The town is named for John Lovewell, who led the colonial forces in the nearby Battle of Lovewell&#8217;s Pond. In its early days the town thrived as an ideal location for mills, with its ample supply of water power. Once it was connected by railroad it became a popular vacation destination thanks to the beautiful Kezar Lake and the surrounding wilderness, which it remains today.
