The town is named after the biblical King Hiram of Tyre. Hiram was once a stage stop on the Pequawket Trail connecting the Native American settlement at Pequawket (now Fryeburg) to coastal settlements, and was once connected to Bridgton via the Bridgton and Saco River Railroad line. <a href=\"https:\/\/townofhiram.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Click here<\/strong><\/a> to visit the official town website.<\/p>\n<h3>Fun Facts<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>One of the town&#8217;s most notable early residents was General Peleg Wadsworth, who led forces and was captured in the Revolutionary War battle at Castine.
