The land was originally granted to Hampden Academy in Maine in 1803.&#8221; (McCauley p.164 &#8211;\u00a0 <em>The Names of Maine<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>The town of Weston was incorporated in 1835, but much before Weston became a town, the land was significant for its water transportation. Native Americans and early settlers alike were able to travel along the waterways, which led them to Weston&#8217;s lakes. People were able to travel all the way from Bangor to Weston, <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">where they could then travel to Houlton and even farther North.
