The town bears the name of the parish which had been established ten years earlier. The religious influence, which the community represents, was given the name &#8212; Town of St. Agatha after the Sicilian Saint of the third century.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/maineanencyclopedia.com\/st-agatha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maine an Encyclopedia<\/a>, &#8220;Settled by <a href=\"https:\/\/maineanencyclopedia.com\/acadia-acadian\/\">Acadians<\/a>, the name derives from the parish church that was established in 1890. Agatha was a martyred Sicilian saint of the third century, put to death for her Christian beliefs.\u00a0Farming and lumbering have been this St. John Valley area town\u2019s historic economic base.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Today, it is home to 730 residents (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/St._Agatha,_Maine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020 census<\/a>). It is also home to home to Long Lake, a major recreational destination.
