Primarily comprised of commercial forest land, the North Maine Woods has very few permanent inhabitants. Perhaps most known from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thoreau-online.org\/the-maine-woods.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henry David Thoreau&#8217;s <em>The Maine Woods<\/em><\/a>, these lands were also visited by <a href=\"https:\/\/erenow.net\/biographies\/the-wilderness-warrior-theodore-roosevelt-and-the-crusade-for-america\/5.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Theodore Roosevelt<\/a> and a once-bustling flow of hunters, rusticators, and lumberjacks. Business has quieted down a bit over the years, giving these woods an even more remote and pristine feel.
