The map includes places to eat, shop, and lodge.<\/p>\n<p>        <iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin\"\n                security=\"restricted\" marginheight=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"\n                src=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/undiscoveredmaine\/map-points-category\/downeast-maine\/?embed=1\" width=\"100%\" height=\"650px\"><\/p>\n<p>        <\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Facts about DownEast Maine:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Eastport is the most eastern city in the United States, receiving the first morning sun rays.<\/li>\n<li>Maine is the largest producer of wild blueberries in the world.<\/li>\n<li>Acadia National Park is the 6th most visited national park in the United States.<\/li>\n<li>The coastline boasts so many deep harbors it is thought all the navies in the world could anchor in them.<\/li>\n<li>Eastport was under British rule for four years (1814-1818).<\/li>\n<li>The sun rises on DownEast Acadia before anywhere else in the nation.<\/li>\n<li>DownEast Maine has some of the highest ocean tides on the planet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>DownEast has Several Regions:<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;A\u00a0<i>frontier<\/i>\u00a0represents uncharted territory. It could be a remote piece of land or a new field of study, but if someone calls it &#8220;the\u00a0<i>frontier<\/i>,&#8221; you are challenged to explore it.&#8221; (vocabulary.com) Therefore it seemed appropriate to use that word for our DownEast regions.\u00a0 These areas include but are not limited to the following towns<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Westerly Frontier: Brooklin, Sedgwick and Deer isle<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitbarharbor.com\/acadia-national-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bar Harbor-Acadia National Park (Mount Desert island) area<\/a>, which we do not cover on this website<\/li>\n<li>Middle Frontier: Sullivan, Birch harbor, Hancock, Harrington, Cherryfield, Milbridge, and Jonesport<\/li>\n<li>Easterly Frontier: Machias, Cutler, Eastport, and Lubec, .<\/li>\n<li>Northern Frontier: Calais, and Grand Lake Stream<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are many beautiful preserves in DownEast Maine.
