The Martin Acadian Homestead was built in 1860, added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 2009, and was incorporated as the Martin Acadian Homestead and Learning Center in 2019.

    • 1970s log building named after Marguerite Blanche Thibodeau Cyr in honor of her heroic deeds during the 1797 famine. This is where you can learn more about the history and heritage of the towns settlers. It is maintained by the泭.

    • One of the last one-room schoolhouses built in New Sweden. The school served as a place of voting and housed the local Grange after it was closed in 1950.

    • Preserves the local history of this area of Aroostook County. Explore the collection of letters, old photographs, and other historic artifacts that chronicle Caribous role in the Aroostook War, importance as a potato farming region, and site of the Loring Air Force Base.

    • This one-room schoolhouse was built in 1917 and used until 1948. It is now a museum, with much of the original tin wall covering, school desks, instruction books, and bell still in place. The school is now also used as a picnic area, meeting place, and for weddings, family gatherings, and educational activities.

    • The Aroostook County Historic and Art Museum home was built in 1903. The original house at the site burned in 1902 and was rebuilt on same foundation. The last owner was Stella White who deeded it to the Town to be used as a museum. It was used as the Red Cross Headquarters during WWII. The building was designated as a national Historic Building in 1975.

    • In recognition of its importance, the Burnham Tavern has been designated as a National Historic Site by the U.S. Department of the Interior, and in 1974 the Tavern was selected as one of the 21 homes in the United States with the most significance to the American Revolution, the only one so recognized in the State of Maine.

Kennedy Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery.”

    • The Society’s headquarters includes five buildings and a variety of displays and is staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers who are able to answer questions, point out features of displays, and assist those who want to do research.

    • Dr. Holmes was the third doctor to practice in this house; the first was Shilometh Whipple, a famous Boston physician and the second was Dr. Cyrus Hamlin, the older brother of Hannibal Hamlin, the vice president of Abraham Lincoln. This museum has been restored to look like Dr. Holmess home and office and has many pictures, maps, medical equipment, and more.

    • Learn about local history in the area around Eastport. There is the Fort Sullivan Barracks Museum, Quoddy Craft Shop, Quoddy Dam model, and a research room.

    • While Fort Pentagoet served as a French defense asset, Fort George was build almost 150 years late in the late 18th century by Britain to protect what was then Canada from the revolutionary forces in the colonies, while establishing a new colony under the name of New Ireland. Unlike Fort Pentagoet, Fort George is much more evident by the shape of the mounded earth that formed its outer bounds.

    • Located just off of Perkins Street farther west than Fort Pentagoet, Fort Madison is a smaller fort that was built in the very early years of the 19th century, and was engaged in the War of 1812. The fort was captured by British forces when Castine was occupied for a short time. During this time, the fort was renamed to Fort Castine, before it was taken back by the United States. Today, little more is left than just a bit of the earthen framework that gently shows its outline.

    • This fort was built in 1775 and saw the first official naval battle of the Revolutionary War, and was destroyed by the British fleet in the same year. It was rebuilt in 1777, and destroyed by the British again in 1814. In 1923 the United States Federal Government decided to deed the site over to Maine, where it was made a State Historic Site in 1966 and is now maintained by the Bureau of Parks and Lands ever since.

    • Though it has been called by different names over the years, Fort Pentagoet sits right on the water. This historic fort, while all but gone due to the passage of many centuries, was one of the first major defensive structures in the area. The structure was built in the 1630s, and over time has been subject to many an invasion.

At the time, Blue Hill was considered to be in the northern part of Massachusetts. Jonathon Fisher was a watercolor artist and was also an engraver.

    • “The goal of the park is to honor the brave souls that have lost their lives in the fishing industry off the waters of Washington County, Maine, and Charlotte County, New Brunswick, Canada.” The memorial serves as an emotional reminder to the community of all the sacrifices made by the brave fishermen.

    • A historic railroad station that was built in 1898 and is one of the five remaining stations built by the ambitious but unsuccessful Washington County Railroad.

    • Last traditional smoked-herring facility in the United States, which closed its doors in 1991. On July 15, 1993, the smokehouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It now features rotating exhibits with arts and crafts and a gift shop.

    • The Ruggles House is a gorgeous example of Federal style architecture, a true local landmark in the region. Open between June and October, the house has been beautifully preserved and artifacts have been found and placed in areas of the house as if the family still inhabits it!

    • This historic site overlooks the Saint Croix Island, which is located between the borders of Maine and New Brunswick. Visits to the island itself are discouraged because of its fragility, but at the historic site, there is a trail with bronze sculptures of French settlers and the Passamaquoddy people. There are also ranger-guided programs, indoor exhibits, artifacts, and a Junior Ranger program for kids.

    • A historic house built by a relative of one of the earliest settlers in Columbia Falls, the Samuel Bucknam House was placed in the National Register of Historic Places in the 1970s. The house dates back to the early 19th century, offering a glimpse into the past!

    • In 2001, a Fox reality TV show called Murder in Small Town X was filmed in Eastport, Maine about a dinner murder mystery with contestants who had to collect clues from actor “townspeople” to solve the murder. The fisherman statue was made for the show, and although it was cut from the show’s budget the statue was made anyway and became an Eastport classic for various reasons, including its goofiness and symbolism. The winner of the show, ngel Jarbe, Jr., a Bronx firefighter, was killed in the World Trade Center on September 11, one week after the series finale so the statue is also a memorial for Mr. Juarbe.

The John Perkins house is a colonial house that the museum has been involved with touring, that lets people take a step back in time to see what life was like in a coastal town during colonial times.

    • Witherle Woods became open to the public in 1985, and has come to host 6.5 miles of trails that wind through beautiful Maine forest, encompassing centuries of history within the foliage. The area has a heavy history of battles fought during colonial and post-colonial times, evidenced by the remnants of batteries and artifacts found through archeological digs.

    • This house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of few surviving log houses built in the nineteenth century remaining in Maine today. The house is named after the minister Levi Sargent, an early Otisfield settler and owner of this land.
    • Did you know that there are 2 lost “ghost” villages underneath Flagstaff lake? Flagstaff Village and Dead River Plantation are the lost “Atlantis” towns of Maine. Some say you can still see them when the waters of Flagstaff lake are clear.泭泭is a great way to see them.
