Mapleton
Welcome to Mapleton!
The town of Mapleton was incorporated in 1880, and is thought to have been named for the abundance of maple trees found in this area. The original European settlers mostly came from New Brunswick, with more from elsewhere in the United States following later, and eventually building a sizable town complete with a sawmill and starch factory. Like in much of Aroostook County, potatoes were and continue to be the most important crop grown in Mapleton. ()
