King Chair, McGillicuddy Humanities Center invite hosts of popular podcast to discuss King films at IMRC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just in time for the scary season, the hosts of a popular film podcast are coming to Orono on October 19 to discuss a pair of iconic movies adapted from the works of the Master of Horror himself, Stephen King.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Millie De Chirico and Danielle Henderson are the co-hosts of the popular film podcast <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exactlyrightmedia.com\/i-saw-what-you-did\">I Saw What You Did<\/a><\/em>. They will be at the IMRC Center to engage with the films <em>Pet Sematary<\/em> and <em>Misery<\/em>. De Chirico and Henderson will talk attendees through the films with clips and commentary, followed by a discussion and Q&amp;A session.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event is scheduled for 3:30-5:30 PM on October 19 in the Fernald\u00a0Adaptive Presentation &amp; Performance Environment, located in Room 104 in the IMRC. Hosting the event will be professor of English Jennifer Moxley and interdisciplinary PhD student and intermedia artist Sean Lopez. It is made possible with the support of the Stephen E. King Chair in Literature and the McGillicuddy Humanities Center.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Started in 2020, <em>I Saw What You Did<\/em> is distributed by Exactly Right Media. Since then, De Chirico and Henderson have been bringing their intelligent, irreverent takes on movies to listeners all over the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The description says it all:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMillie and Danielle, a film expert and a film enthusiast, program a double-feature of their favorite movies with a different wild theme every week. Join these friends as they dissect the films and explore the weird ways we respond to and learn to love movies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jennifer Moxley extended the invitation to De Chirico and Henderson after learning of the pair\u2019s affinity for King\u2019s work and realizing that they could really help students see the connection between loving movies and thinking critically about them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI got the idea to bring the\u00a0<em>I Saw What You Did\u00a0<\/em>podcasters Millie De Chirico and Danielle Henderson to the University of Maine after listening to an episode in which they talked about how much they loved Stephen King,\u201d said Moxley. \u201cI thought to myself: these two smart, funny, irreverent women could help our students see how being a movie fan<em>\u00a0<\/em>and analyzing films can go hand in hand. They make critical thinking about film approachable and fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Danielle Henderson is a TV writer (<em>Maniac<\/em>, <em>Divorce<\/em>, <em>Dare Me<\/em>, and more), a retired\u00a0freelance writer, and a former editor for <em>Rookie<\/em>. A book based on her popular website,\u00a0Feminist Ryan Gosling, was released by Running Press in August 2012. Her memoir,\u00a0<em>The Ugly Cry<\/em>, was published by Viking in June 2021. Currently she\u2019s a show-runner for\u00a0<em>The Other Black Girl<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Filipina-American Millie De Chirico worked as a programmer for <em>TCM Underground<\/em> for 18\u00a0years and recently released a book she co-wrote called <em>TCM Underground: 50 Must-\u00a0<\/em><em>See Films from the World of Classic Cult and Late-Night Cinema<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Join these podcasters as they dig into two of the most celebrated film adaptations of Stephen King\u2019s work, bringing their own unique perspectives to the conversation even as they invite audience members to share thoughts of their own.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just in time for the scary season, the hosts of a popular film podcast are coming to Orono on October 19 to discuss a pair of iconic movies adapted from the works of the Master of Horror himself, Stephen King.
