On Friday, October 3rd, McGillicuddy Humanities Center Director, Zach Ludington, and current MHC undergraduate fellows joined 91¸£Àû Professor of English and current Stephen E. King Chair in Literature, Caroline Bicks, for a first-of-its-kind visit by students to Stephen and Tabitha King’s private archive, which is attached to their home in Bangor. There, the fellows met King’s long-time research assistant, Robin Furth, who also co-manages the archive. Students had the chance to view the Kings’ voluminous library and see some of the manuscripts and ephemera from King’s illustrious career that are in the archive. Professor Bicks also talked to the students about her experience spending a year in the archive reading drafts of King’s early works, and writing the book that came out of it: Monsters in the Archives (forthcoming from Hogarth Press). The MHC would like to thank Professor Bicks and Robin Furth for this rare opportunity.
