It is a means to facilitate our achieving the critical objective: <strong>innovation<\/strong>. &#8221;\u00a0\u223c <em>The National Science Foundation<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Building a diverse faculty is important at the University of Maine for many reasons, including for enhancing the student experience and ensuring that UM graduates are prepared\u00a0 for success in a global society.<\/p>\n<p>The Rising Tide Center supports diversifying our faculty to provide, among other benefits, role models for every member of our community. To further this common goal, Human Resources, the Office of Equal Opportunity and the Rising Tide Center collaborated to develop a <em><strong>Faculty Recruitment Handbook<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>that describes best practices for every step of the search and hiring process,\u00a0from drafting an advertisement to interviewing, to\u00a0examining the biases that can prevent the hiring of excellent candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Before you participate on a search committee, tap\u00a0into the resources linked below to help your department achieve strategic goals.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>STRIDE: Strategies and Tactics for Recruiting to Improve Diversity and Excellence<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; This video, available on YouTube, offers relevant\u00a0strategies for\u00a0identifying and overcoming\u00a0 schemas that impact\u00a0faculty search and evaluation processes.
