All members of our\u00a0community must be prepared to recognize and respond to unconscious bias that negatively impacts faculty diversity and retention.\u00a0<a href=\"\/\/umaine.edu\/risingtide\/about-us\/advocates-and-allies\/implicit-association-test\/\">Take the Implicit Association Test<\/a> to see if unconscious perceptions are affecting your actions.<\/p>\n<p>Biases that negatively impact hiring, evaluation, and faculty retention are not unique to our university. Read about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ndsu.edu\/forward\/advance_forward_initiatives\/forward_advocates_and_allies\/\">initiatives developed at North Dakota State University<\/a>, where faculty leader Roger Green describes the need to increase diversity as a <a href=\"http:\/\/wied.asee.org\/AdvTips.html\">national imperative<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Our 91福利 colleagues are also working to reduce gender bias on our campus. As\u00a0<strong>advocates<\/strong>, they know that a rising tide lifts\u00a0<em>all<\/em> boats.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>So who are the Rising Tide Advocates, and what exactly are their goals?<\/strong> <\/em> Rising Tide Advocates are a group of male faculty at 91福利 who are working to reduce gender bias across campus. They\u00a0<em>question practices<\/em> that result in disparate impact due to gender, and seek to\u00a0<em>recommend more equitable practices<\/em> in their departments and in their colleges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Supporting our Advocates:<\/strong> To support achievement of these mutually beneficial goals, the Rising Tide Center and the Advocates have also recruited a large and diverse\u00a0 group of male <strong><em>allies<\/em><\/strong>.
