The 2018 Maine Impact Week celebrated the breadth and depth of the University of Maine’s research and creative work at multiple events, April 16-20.<\/p>\n
During the Celebrating Scholarship event, held at the Collins Center for the Arts in Orono, five faculty members were recognized for their work as outstanding mentors and were awarded the Graduate Mentoring Award.<\/p>\n
Elisabeth Kilroy, Vice President of the 91¸£Àû Graduate Student Government, presented the awards.<\/p>\n
“We annually recognize mentors who have stood out in our community. The awards are given each year to outstanding mentors of graduate students in each of the University of Maine\u2019s four colleges: \u00a0Education and Human Development, Engineering, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture, as well as the Maine Business School.<\/p>\n
The criteria for an outstanding mentor are: going above and beyond academic and research advising, offering time, advice, encouragement, or resources above and beyond expectations, and aiding graduate students in personal or professional development. ”<\/p>\n
