{"id":185,"date":"2018-02-20T10:54:14","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T15:54:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/research-compliance\/?page_id=185"},"modified":"2024-08-06T13:43:42","modified_gmt":"2024-08-06T17:43:42","slug":"training","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/research-compliance\/animal-care\/training\/","title":{"rendered":"Training for Animal Care"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Required Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Training<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All faculty, staff, and students involved with the use of vertebrate animals in research, teaching, testing, or related purposes are required to complete the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) web-based training in animal welfare before protocols will be approved. <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/research-compliance\/resource\/instructions-for-citi-training\/\">Instructions for CITI Training (Word)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The CITI training is valid for four years from the date of completion.\u00a0CITI will send reminders when it is time to retake the training.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Depending on the number of modules required, it could take several hours and multiple log-ins to complete.\u00a0Passing score for quizzes is 70%.\u00a0The components of the CITI training include:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Required Course: Working with the IACUC Course (for Investigators, Students, and Staff). <strong><em>This is the required course that must be taken.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Species Specific Modules and Technique\/Additional Information Modules: in addition to the required \u201cWorking with the IACUC\u201d course, we strongly recommend you take modules from these sections that apply to your research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/research-compliance\/animal-care\/#contact\">contact the 91¸£Àû IACUC office<\/a>&nbsp;with any questions regarding training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional Training Guidance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/research-compliance\/animal-safety\/training\/required-training-students-class\/\">Training Requirement for Students Who Handle Live Vertebrate Animals in Class<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/research-compliance\/animal-care\/occupational-hazards\/\">Special Health Concerns When Working with Animals<\/a>: Guidance regarding when additional precautions may be needed, including allergies, illness\/immune deficiency &amp; pregnancy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Required Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Training All faculty, staff, and students involved with the use of vertebrate animals in research, teaching, testing, or related purposes are required to complete the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) web-based training in animal welfare before protocols will be approved.
