report<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Poets&nbsp;Matvei Yankelevich and Anna Moschovakis kicked off the fall 2006 season of the 91¸£Àû New Writing Series on September 28 before an audience of forty-five people in the Soderberg Center Auditorium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yankelevich opened his 35-minute set with several short poems (\u201cI\u2019m not sure I like writing\u2026,\u201d \u201cMr. Artaud says\u2026,\u201d \u201cI didn\u2019t get paid because I didn\u2019t work hard enough\u2026,\u201d \u201cNext summer\u2026\u201d), then read four translations from Russian absurdist Daniil Kharms\u2018s&nbsp;<em>The Blue Notebook.<\/em> The remainder of his set was devoted to the first public performance of his chapbook,&nbsp;<em>The Present Work<\/em>&nbsp;(Los Angeles: Palm, 2006) in its entirety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moschovakis began her 30-minute set with excerpts from her new Turtle Point book,&nbsp;<em>I Have Not Been Able to Get Through to Everyone,<\/em> including the opening untitled poem, the sequence \u201cPreparations,\u201d and portions of the long poem \u201cThe Blue Book.\u201d Her set also included the sequence \u201cCritical Writing\u201d and the first public performance of a new long poem, \u201cMy Life in Violence, or Death as a Way of Life\u201d (title approximate).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lively question-and-answer period followed the reading.
