Presentations included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.phaidon.com\/store\/art\/josef-albers-to-open-eyes-9780714849652\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brenda Danilowitz<\/a>, chief curator of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.albersfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Josef and Anni Albers Foundation<\/a>, on the transition from Bauhaus to Black Mountain College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ruth Erickson, assistant curator at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icaboston.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ICA\/Boston<\/a> and editor, with Helen Molesworth, of the <a href=\"http:\/\/yalepress.yale.edu\/book.asp?isbn=9780300211917\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Leap Before You Look<\/a>catalog, on John Cage&#8217;s Theater Piece N\u00ba1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sbu.edu\/about-sbu\/people-of-sbu\/faculty-profiles\/harris-kaplan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kaplan Harris<\/a>, Associate Professor of English at St. Bonaventure University and co-editor of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucpress.edu\/book.php?isbn=9780520241602\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Selected Letters of Robert Creeley<\/a>, on the Jargon Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypl.org\/staff-profiles\/jonathan-hiam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jonathan Hiam<\/a>, curator of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Archives of Recorded Sound at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypl.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Public Librar<\/a>y, on the 1945 Music Institute, which was held at Kenyon College after dissension at BMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vincentkatz.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vincent Katz<\/a>, curator and editor of <a href=\"https:\/\/mitpress.mit.edu\/books\/black-mountain-college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Black Mountain College: Experiment in Art<\/a>, on Robert Creeley&#8217;s editing of the final issue of <em>Black Mountain Review<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Katherine Markoski, a recent postdoctoral fellow at the Smithsonian, on Cy Twombly and Charles Olson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arthistory.ucsb.edu\/faculty\/sorkin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jenni Sorkin<\/a>, Assistant Professor of Art History and Architecture at UC Santa Barbara, on MC Richards, with a focus on her translations of Antonin Artaud and experimental theater work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, poet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/bio\/anselm-berrigan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anselm Berrigan<\/a>, co-chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bard.edu\/mfa\/bios\/index.php?id=99959717\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Graduate Writing Program at Bard<\/a>, was a discussant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the University of Maine faculty who participated in the Symposium were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palgrave.com\/page\/detail\/language-and-the-renewal-of-society-in-walt-whitman-laura-riding-jackson-and-charles-olson-carla-billitteri\/?isb=9780230620407\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Carla Billitteri<\/a> (English, CPP), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thirdfactory.net\/evans.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steve Evans<\/a> (English, CPP), <a href=\"http:\/\/genefelice.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gene Felice<\/a> (New Media \/ Intermedia), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucpress.edu\/book.php?isbn=9780520251960\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Benjamin Friedlander<\/a> (English, CPP), <a href=\"http:\/\/umaine.academia.edu\/KirstenJacobson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kirsten Jacobson<\/a> (Philosophy), <a href=\"http:\/\/jennifermoxley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jennifer Moxley<\/a> (English, CPP), <a href=\"http:\/\/us.macmillan.com\/thomashartbenton\/justinwolff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Justin Wolff<\/a> (Art History), and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Symposium built on three courses offered at the University of Maine in 2015 by Steve Evans (English) and Justin Wolff (Art History) and looked ahead to a sequence of <a href=\"https:\/\/msa.press.jhu.edu\/conferences\/msa17\/events\/ICA:BMC.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">roundtables and gallery talks<\/a> at the seventeenth annual Modernist Studies Association conference in Boston in November of 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kick-Off Event: Thursday, October 22<\/strong><br>The Poetry of Black Mountain College: A Celebration<br>A special event in the <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/poetry\/new-writing-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">91¸£Àû New Writing Series<\/a><br>4:30pm in the Allen &amp;
