Jean MacRae, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Maine, spoke with for an article titled 鈥淢aine struggling to get homeowners to test and treat private wells for arsenic.鈥 Most private wells in Maine are bedrock wells, which are drilled an average of 250 feet deep to access pockets of groundwater contained in the rock鈥檚 fractures.
