Making that transition, quickly and cost-effectively, means unprecedented and coordinated work at all three points of the \u201cClean Energy Triangle\u201d \u2014 Technology, Policy and Finance. \u00a0We need to develop and deploy major low-carbon technologies in all four of the key energy-using sectors at unprecedented scale. The success of this effort will require aggressive policy-making at all levels of government &#8211; international, national, state and local \u2014 and unprecedented amounts of private and public capital, from high-risk early stage R&amp;D and venture investing to late-stage project and infrastructure finance. The speaker has worked across all three points of the Clean Energy Triangle\u00a0\u2014\u00a0as U.S. Assistant Secretary of Energy, Google\u2019s Director of Climate and Energy Initiatives, co-founder of the nation\u2019s first renewable energy project investment fund, and founding executive director of Stanford University\u2019s Center on Energy Policy and Finance. \u00a0Most recently, he brokered a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/10\/13\/climate\/environmentalists-hydropower-dams.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/10\/13\/climate\/environmentalists-hydropower-dams.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1631103558241000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHLWkBeudz98jQ4dQuQc3rqkqyaXA\">major agreement between the U.S. hydropower industry and environmental community<\/a>\u00a0on a new coordinated and better-funded approach to the nation\u2019s more than 90,000 dams, called the\u00a0\u201c3Rs\u201d: rehabilitate some for safety; retrofit some for power; and remove some for conservation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dan_W._Reicher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Dan Reicher<\/strong><\/a> is a senior research scholar at the Stanford Woods Institute for Environment. He is also a distinguished associate at Energy Futures Initiative, which was founded by former U.S. Secretary for Energy Ernest Moniz, and a venture partner at Ridge-Lane Limited Partners. Reicher joined Stanford in 2011 as the executive director of Stanford&#8217;s Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy &amp; Finance. He was also a lecturer at Stanford Law School. Before joining Stanford, he was the director of climate change and energy initiatives at Google.<\/p>\n<p>Reicher has worked for three U.S. presidents, including in the Clinton administration as assistant secretary of energy for energy efficiency and renewable energy, and\u00a0 as the Department of Energy&#8217;s chief of staff. Reicher was a member of President Obama\u2019s transition team. He was also a staff member of President Carter\u2019s Commission on the Accident at Three Mile Island.<\/p>\n<p>Reicher is a member of the board of American Rivers and of the Vermont Law School&#8217;s Environmental Advisory Committee. He was a member of\u00a0the U.S. Secretary of Energy Advisory Board and the National Academy of Sciences Board on Energy and Environmental Systems, as well as co-chairman of the Board of the American Council on Renewable Energy.<\/p>\n<p>Reicher holds a B.A. in biology from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from Stanford Law School. He also studied at Harvard\u2019s Kennedy School of Government and MIT.
