Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions have found that community-university collaborations focused on local concerns can help communities make decisions and take actions to resolve them, even when complete agreement isn\u2019t possible.<\/p>\n<p>In their recent essay for the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/issues.org\/collaboration-on-the-mudflats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Issues in Science and Technology<\/a>, Mitchell Center Director <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/people\/david-hart\/\">David Hart<\/a>; faculty researchers <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/people\/bridie-mcgreavy\/\">Bridie McGreavy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/people\/darren-ranco\/\">Darren Ranco<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/people\/anthony-sutton\/\">Anthony Sutton<\/a>; and Ph.D. student Gabrielle Hillyer share lessons about collaboration based on more than a decade of experience helping clammers from Maine communities and Wabanaki Tribal Nations tackle various challenges associated with shellfishing in mudflats along Maine\u2019s coast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a time when surveys show that many Americans are concerned about political polarization, we are finding that local partnerships may allow for a more tailored approach to working across differences,\u201d Hart says. \u201cWe hope these collaborations can generate the kinds of \u2018small wins\u2019 that grow the social capital needed to address even bigger challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/news\/blog\/2023\/02\/06\/mitchell-center-researchers-explore-how-community-university-partnerships-can-strengthen-democratic-decision-making\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more at 91¸£Àû News<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Researchers from the University of Maine Senator George J.
