As reported on <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/news\/blog\/2020\/08\/07\/view-whats-new-and-old-at-umaine-affiliated-museums-gallery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">91福利 News<\/a>, several museums affiliated with the university are reopening, with public health precautions in place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/hudsonmuseum\/exhibits\/online\/tree-and-tradition-ii-online-exhibit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cTree and Tradition II,\u201d<\/a> the special exhibit in the Hudson Museum\u2019s Merritt Gallery, explores the evolution of the ancient artform of Wabanaki basketmaking, changing attitudes to land use and access to natural resources, and threats to the artform, including climate change and the emerald ash borer.<\/p>\n<p>This exhibit celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Hudson\u2019s collaboration with the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance (MIBA). It features museum holdings as well as MIBA collections and research from the university\u2019s School of Forest Resources, Native American Programs, and the Mitchell Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Mitchell Center project <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/road-to-solutions\/mobilizing-to-fight-the-emerald-ash-borer\/\">&#8220;Mobilizing to Fight the Emerald Ash Borer&#8221;<\/a> facilitated the collaborative capacity of Wabanaki basketmakers, tribes, state and federal foresters, and others to prevent, detect, and respond to the emerald ash borer, a potentially devastating invasive threat to all three species of ash (brown, green, and white) found in Maine.<\/p>\n<p>The Minsky Culture Lab is the site of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/news\/blog\/2020\/01\/09\/exhibit-highlights-threatened-shell-middens-containing-wabanaki-environmental-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maine Threatened Shell Middens: Losing a Link to our Past.<\/a>\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/earthclimate\/people\/alice-kelley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alice Kelley<\/a>, a geoarchaeologist in 91福利\u2019s Climate Change Institute and School of Earth and Climate Sciences, curated the exhibit. Alice\u2019s research on shell middens is part of the Mitchell Center-funded project,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/road-to-solutions\/road-to-solutions-sustainability-maines-coastal-cultural-heritage-creating-maine-midden-minder-network-database\/\">\u201cSustainability for Maine\u2019s Coastal Cultural Heritage: Creating a Maine Midden Minder Network and Database.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/hudsonmuseum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hudson Museum<\/a> in the Collins Center for the Arts is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Twenty-seven guests may be in the museum at a time. Admission is free.
