{"id":20123,"date":"2020-06-25T16:13:37","date_gmt":"2020-06-25T20:13:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/?p=20123"},"modified":"2020-06-25T16:13:37","modified_gmt":"2020-06-25T20:13:37","slug":"mitchell-center-faculty-featured-in-umaine-today-article-on-iurc-team-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/2020\/06\/25\/mitchell-center-faculty-featured-in-umaine-today-article-on-iurc-team-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Mitchell Center faculty featured in 91¸£Àû Today article on IURC team research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several projects in the Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Research Collaborative (IURC) that are led by Mitchell Center faculty were featured in the <a href=\"https:\/\/umainetoday.umaine.edu\/features\/2020\/learning-through-discovery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">spring 2020 issue of 91¸£Àû Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The IURC projects bring together researchers and students at all levels, from diverse disciplines, to tackle complex research questions with real-world significance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/people\/sandra-de-urioste-stone\/\">Sandra de Urioste-Stone<\/a> and Pauline Kamath led a team studying disease in Maine moose that have the potential to be zoonotic (to move from animals to humans). <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/people\/deborah-saber\/\">Deborah Saber<\/a> led a team focused on food waste, food insecurity, and movement toward a circular food economy. This project is related to Mitchell Center <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/materials-management\/\">Materials Management team<\/a> research. A project team investigating the physical, biological and social dynamics of the Western Passage, a body of water between Maine and New Brunswick, was led by <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/people\/kristina-cammen\/\">Kristina Cammen<\/a>, working with <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/people\/gayle-zydlewski\/\">Gayle Zydlewski<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/people\/jessica-jansujwicz\/\">Jessica Jansujwicz<\/a> and others. <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mitchellcenter\/people\/allison-gardner\/\">Allison Gardner<\/a> and Sandra de Urioste-Stone led a team investigating the biophysical and social aspects of tick-borne disease risk in Acadia National Park.
