Compiling data to better assess, understand and forecast complex forest landscape changes is the goal of a four-year, multidisciplinary regional project led by the University of Maine.<\/p>\n

The project was awarded $6 million from the National Science Foundation, with $3 million contingent on project progress and availability of funds.<\/p>\n

It will bring together expertise and facilities from 91르적, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Vermont to build a digital framework that integrates, analyzes and visualizes complex data streams across the region\u2019s vast forest.<\/p>\n

\u201cForests are changing rapidly, while the technology to better monitor them is, too,\u201d says Aaron Weiskittel<\/a>, professor of forest biometrics and modeling and Irving Chair of Forest Ecosystem Management at 91르적, who is leading the project. \u201cI hope this project can help support and sustain northern New England\u2019s unique working forests, which many rural communities rely on for their livelihoods.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other Mitchell Center project team members include Kate Beard<\/a>, professor of spatial information science and engineering and Sam Roy<\/a>, research assistant professor at the Mitchell Center.<\/p>\n
