In November, Mitchell Center faculty member Bridie McGreavy and doctoral student Tyler Quiring attended the National Communication Association Convention<\/a> in Dallas, Texas. They shared their research connected with the Mitchell Center and learned from a variety of other scholars doing important theoretical and applied work on communication.<\/p>\n

On November 17, Quiring presented collaborative research as part of the Future of Dams<\/a> (FoD) project on the New England Sustainability Consortium.\u00a0Quiring\u2019s presentation was about the work the FoD team is doing analyzing newspaper coverage of dam removal in the US and New England.<\/p>\n

“This study has begun to more broadly inform the Future of Dams project in a number of ways, and the presentation focused on how media analysis brings collaborative interdisciplinary teams together.”<\/p>\n

On November 18, McGreavy gave two research presentations based on the engaged work she has been doing with clamming communities with support through the Mitchell Center<\/a>. The first was an exploration of the role opiates may have in the ecology of the shellfishery.<\/p>\n

The second was based on a set of science communication recommendations McGreavy and collaborators provided to the Maine Department of Marine Resources (DMR) based on several years of embedded research on the strategies and opportunities for science communication between DMR and shellfishing communities.<\/p>\n
