For this research, Sinclair will be advised by English Department’s Dr. Hollie Adams. Far too often, the underlying ideologies of these stories remain undiscussed—taken at face value—and dominant, harmful ideologies proliferate through seemingly innocuous media. Children, especially vulnerable to this messaging, find themselves exposed to stories that carry patriarchal, colonial, and white supremacist underpinnings that rarely bubble to the surface. In many cases, our very frustrations with the ways the world is run are packaged and sold back to us through these stories. Coining the term paraworld to describe this concept, Ellis Sinclair invites you to a conversation about stories, meaning, and how even resistance becomes commodified within the confines of empire.

For more details, email mhc@maine.edu

Through the Rabbit Hole: The Paraworld and How Stories Reproduce Ideology a presentation by MHC Undergraduate Fellow Ellis Sinclair Tuesday, December 2, 2025 2:00 PM Lown Room 228 Memorial Union […]

["post-9254","tribe_events","type-tribe_events","status-publish","hentry

Ellis Sinclair - Through the Rabbit Hole: The Paraworld and How Stories Reproduce Ideology - Clement and Linda McGillicuddy Humanities Center - University of Maine

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://umaine.edu/mhc/event/ellis-sinclair-through-the-rabbit-hole-the-paraworld-and-how-stories-reproduce-ideology/","url":"https://umaine.edu/mhc/event/ellis-sinclair-through-the-rabbit-hole-the-paraworld-and-how-stories-reproduce-ideology/","name":"Ellis Sinclair - Through the Rabbit Hole: The Paraworld and How Stories Reproduce Ideology - Clement and Linda McGillicuddy Humanities Center - University of Maine","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://umaine.edu/mhc/#website"},"datePublished":"2025-10-29T16:23:49+00:00","dateModified":"2025-10-31T00:24:51+00:00","breadcrumb":{"@id":"https://umaine.edu/mhc/event/ellis-sinclair-through-the-rabbit-hole-the-paraworld-and-how-stories-reproduce-ideology/#breadcrumb"},"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"ReadAction","target":["https://umaine.edu/mhc/event/ellis-sinclair-through-the-rabbit-hole-the-paraworld-and-how-stories-reproduce-ideology/"]}]},{"@type":"BreadcrumbList","@id":"https://umaine.edu/mhc/event/ellis-sinclair-through-the-rabbit-hole-the-paraworld-and-how-stories-reproduce-ideology/#breadcrumb","itemListElement":[{"@type":"ListItem","position":1,"name":"Home","item":"https://umaine.edu/mhc/"},{"@type":"ListItem","position":2,"name":"Events","item":"https://umaine.edu/mhc/events/"},{"@type":"ListItem","position":3,"name":"Ellis Sinclair –
