<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In spring 2026, the Clement and Linda McGillicuddy Humanities Center (MHC) welcomes three new undergraduate humanities research fellows: Emma Beauregard, Madeline Myers, and Wyatt Perron. This cohort joins current fellows Haden Buzzell, Thomas Gao, Eddie Nachamie and Helen Walter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MHC undergraduate fellows receive an award of up to $8,000 over the course of two semesters to pursue an independent research or creative project in the humanities in collaboration with a faculty member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emma Beauregard, a student in the Honors College and History and Accounting double major from Bath, Maine, was awarded an MHC Undergraduate Fellowship to work on their project, \u201cCreating W8banakiak Historical Markers for Bath, Maine.\u201d With this project, Beauregard aims to create a public history project involving research and design for the implementation of four new historical markers that focus on the Abenaki in Bath, Maine. Beauregard is working with\u00a0faculty advisor Tobias Hrynick, Lecturer in the Honors College. Beauregard\u2019s MHC Undergraduate Fellowship is supported by the\u00a0Liam Riordan Humanities Fellowship Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madeline Myers, a student in the Honors College and Anthropology and Biology double major from Clifton, Maine, was awarded an MHC Undergraduate Fellowship to work on their project, \u201cGrowing Grains: Community Burial and Early Farming in Western Neolithic Europe.\u201d\u00a0For this research, Myers is working with faculty advisor\u00a0Dr. Matthew Magnani, Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Climate Change. Myers\u2019 MHC Undergraduate Fellowship is supported by\u00a0The Echoes of Maine Humanities Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wyatt Perron, a Philosophy and Psychology double major from Pownal, Maine, was awarded an MHC Undergraduate Fellowship to work on their project, \u201cPosing in Bondage: A Phenomenological Investigation of The Male Loneliness Epidemic.\u201d For this research, Perron is advised\u00a0by\u00a0Dr. Derek Michaud, Senior Lecturer and Chair of Philosophy and Coordinator of Religious and Judaic Studies at 91¸£Àû. Perron\u2019s MHC Undergraduate Fellowship is supported by The Sandra Merrill Peters and John G. Peters Humanities Scholarship Fund.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to honing their research skills and building their academic networks, MHC fellows serve as humanities ambassadors to their peers, the campus and the broader community. For students interested in becoming a fellow, and faculty who might like to nominate one, the next deadline to apply is October 17. Research and creative work of all types across the humanities will be considered. This includes academic papers, art gallery shows, community workshops or films. Applicants do not need to be humanities majors or minors to be eligible. More information, including application instructions, proposal guidelines and a statement of purpose, is available on the\u00a0MHC website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MHC supports excellent teaching, research and public engagement in the humanities to deepen understanding of the human condition. It elevates programs that foster intellectual curiosity, critical reflection and creative innovation. At the core of the center\u2019s work is the belief that studying the humanities inspires compassion across differences, develops empathy, strengthens critical thinking skills and cultivates the emotional and intellectual agility needed to navigate an increasingly interconnected and complex global landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
