{"id":5567,"global_id":"umaine.edu\/mhc?id=5567","global_id_lineage":["umaine.edu\/mhc?id=5567"],"author":"1341","status":"publish","date":"2019-10-03 10:52:52","date_utc":"2019-10-03 14:52:52","modified":"2019-11-12 12:59:46","modified_utc":"2019-11-12 17:59:46","url":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mhc\/event\/human-beans-a-bean-supper-series\/2019-10-22\/","rest_url":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mhc\/wp-json\/tribe\/events\/v1\/events\/5567","title":"Human Beans: A Bean Supper Series","description":"<div>Throughout the Fall, the McGillicuddy Humanities Center will be holding a series of bean suppers as part of our annual symposium theme of &#8220;Society, Colonization and Decolonization.&#8221;\u00a0Each of the suppers will feature a different cultural identity and <span class=\"il\">bean<\/span> recipe, including Franco-American <span class=\"il\">bean<\/span>-hole <span class=\"il\">beans\u00a0<\/span>with brown bread, US southwestern-style beans with red &amp; green chiles, Cuban <span class=\"il\">bean<\/span> chili, Brazilian black <span class=\"il\">beans<\/span>, and a final potluck supper to which people will be invited to contribute <span class=\"il\">beans<\/span> cooked from their own recipes.<\/div>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<div><strong>Bean Supper dates and geographic themes:\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>Tuesday, October 22 &#8211; Maine<\/div>\n<div>Tuesday, October 29 &#8211; New Mexico<\/div>\n<div>Tuesday, November 5 &#8211; Brazil<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>Thursday, November 14 &#8211; Cuba &lt;&#8212;-NEW DATE<\/div>\n<div>****Note: November 12 event has been rescheduled to November 14 due to snow****<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>Tuesday, November 19 &#8211; Global Potluck<\/div>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<div>Each evening will include a brief presentation by a local specialist, including historians, farmers, and folklorists, and will touch on the process by which the <span class=\"il\">beans<\/span> and the recipes arrive in the Americas&#8211;the human dimension of <span class=\"il\">beans<\/span>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>All suppers are FREE and open to the public, held at the Church of Universal Fellowship in Orono.
