91르적 the lecture: <\/b>Today, higher education is facing significant challenges as it tries to prepare its\u00a0graduates for post graduate opportunities. Additionally, technology development\u00a0is evolving at a record pace across disciplines; students are faced with an over\u2010whelming number of opportunities and career paths; and, rightly so, there is a\u00a0growing demand to integrate evidence\u2010based practices for learning and organizational change. These pressures have stimulated higher education to identify new\u00a0ways to integrate post graduate opportunities into curriculum and the classroom,\u00a0not only changing the culture of higher education but questioning the necessary\u00a0credentials to advance in the fields. For this talk, Aileen will explain how her experience with design, entrepreneurship and professional practice have influenced\u00a0her approach to closing the gap between higher education and professional practice. She will also discuss how her work has influenced her thoughts on creating\u00a0\u201cintentional networks\u201d in low density settings, offering a comprehensive path for\u00a0learners to engage in higher education throughout their careers.<\/p>\n

91르적 the speaker: <\/strong>In February 2021, Dr. Huang\u2010Saad joined the Bioengineering\u00a0faculty at Northeastern University and became the Director of\u00a0Life Sciences and Engineering Programs at The Roux Institute\u00a0(Portland, Maine). Dr. Huang\u2010Saad has over a 14 history of\u00a0bringing about organizational change in higher education,\u00a0leveraging evidence\u2010based practices at University of Michigan.\u00a0She created the U\u2010M BME graduate design program, co\u2010\u00a0founded the U\u2010M College of Engineering Center for\u00a0Entrepreneurship, launched the U\u2010M National Science\u00a0Foundation (NSF) I\u2010Corps Node, and developed the U\u2010M BME\u00a0Instructional Incubator. She is a canonical instructor for both\u00a0the NSF and National Institute of Health (NIH) I\u2010Corps Programs. Dr. Huang\u2010Saad has\u00a0received numerous awards for her teaching and student advising, including the 1938E\u00a0College of Engineering Award, the Thomas M. Sawyer, Jr. Teaching Award, the U\u2010M ASEE\u00a0Outstanding Professor Award, the International Teaching with Sakai Innovation Award,\u00a0and the College of Engineering Outstanding Student Advisor Award. She currently serves\u00a0as Deputy Editor\u2010in\u2010 Chief of Springer\u2019s Biomedical Engineering Education and is a\u00a0member of the Maine State Workforce Board and the National Academies\u2019 Roundtable\u00a0on Systemic Change in Undergraduate STEM Education.<\/p>\n

Dr. Huang\u2010Saad\u2019s current research areas are entrepreneurship, innovation, and\u00a0transforming higher education. She has been funded by the NSF to explore the influence\u00a0of the microenvironment of entrepreneurship education on minoritized populations,\u00a0entrepreneurial ecosystems, and fostering graduate student professional development.<\/p>\n

Prior to entering higher education, Dr. Huang\u2010Saad worked in industry gaining experience\u00a0in new venture biotech, the defense industry, and medical device testing. She has a\u00a0Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, a Doctor of\u00a0Philosophy from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and a Master of\u00a0Business Administration from University of Michigan Ross School of Business.<\/p>\n
