Ethics and Inequities in an Age of Precision Medicine: Insights from Medical Sociology

91¸£Àû the speaker:  Katherine (Kate) Weatherford Darling, PhD is a Sociologist and Assistant Professor of Sociology from the University of Maine at Augusta Bangor Campus, working across the boundaries of medical sociology, feminist science studies, public health and bioethics. Her research examines the ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI’s) of biomedical and genomic sciences in the U.S. In her collaborative work, she uses participatory and sociological methods to understand structural barriers to rural health in order to increase the capacity of health systems, universities and communities to impact health inequalities.
