91¸£Àû the seminar: Children from birth to 18 years old are of the highest risk age groups to experience a brain injury, with over 2.8 million children having experienced a brain injury in the United States. Despite a broad understanding of the chronic and complex nature of childhood brain injury, evidence-based practices are limited for rehabilitation and educational professionals. This seminar will address common long-term challenges associated with childhood brain injury within the scope of speech-language pathology, such as speech, language, and cognitive-communication/executive function skills. Groups at high-risk for disparate negative consequences from childhood brain injury will be discussed, including justice-involved youth and children experiencing family violence. Interdisciplinary assessment and treatment strategies will be discussed, as well as opportunities for research.
