Join us Thursday, November 5th, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. for our annual Día de los Muertos celebration – a Mexican holiday that honors departed family, friends, and ancestors.

The event’s activities include:

• A presentation by Eunice Loredo about this tradition, its origins, and how it is celebrated in Mexico.
• An opportunity for students to try their hand at making traditional decorations, clay skulls, Ojo de Dios (God’s Eyes), tissue paper flowers and paper coffins. They may also explore the Hudson Museum’s Precolumbian collections.
• Traditional refreshments will be served at the end of the event – Day of the Dead bread and punch.

This event is geared for Middle and High School students and Spanish classes.

Space is limited to 300 students and reservations are required!

Peter Dunham – Ph.D. Anthropology (Retired) Cleveland State University – Will present a lecture: “The Surprising Story behind the Hudson Museum’s Ancient Pot from Costa Rica”

This presentation explores the storied past of a little-known ancient pot from Costa Rica in the University of Maine’s Hudson Museum. Dating to ca. AD 1350, the lavish polychrome vessel was once painted by world-renowned Costa Rican artist Francisco Zúñiga. It was also featured on two Costa Rican banknotes, as part of an effort to help ground Costa Rican national identity in the country’s rich indigenous heritage. The piece’s site of origin, date of discovery, and discoverer are revealed, along with the history of its movements that led to the Hudson Museum. In addition, species identifications are proposed for the major tropical forest creatures depicted in its striking decorations, and comparable remains are identified.

°Õ³ó±ðÌýWabanaki Winter Market is New England’s largest holiday gathering of Wabanaki artists. This annual event features artists who have received national awards, as well as new artists representing the next generation of weavers.

The event provides the public with an opportunity to purchase Wabanaki art directly from the artists and to learn about these ancient traditions.

Join the  for a day that will showcase one-of-a-kind art forms (basketry, bead work, wood carving, birchbark items), and maple syrup as well as demonstrations, storytelling, traditional music, drumming and dancing. Something for everyone!

The will be open during the event, and visitors are encouraged to explore the Wabanaki Gallery where they can view the work of the ancestors of the contemporary artists.
