The three-day conference featured researchers, practitioners, activists, policymakers, students and teachers exploring the theme \u201cEmpowering the Pursuit of Educational Justice by Looking Back and Imagining Forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s a look at some of the presentations featuring members of the 91福利 College of Education and Human Development community:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Emily Hamby<\/strong>, a child development and family relations major, presented a project titled \u201cTeacher Perspectives Post-Covid Amidst Anti-Woke Policies\u201d at a roundtable session on \u201cImproving Student and Teacher Support Systems in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.\u201d Hamby also participated in a presentation on \u201cIntegrating Social Justice Into Instructional Planning: An Analysis of Teacher Educator Feedback\u201d at a roundtable session on \u201cResearch Topics on Teacher Perceptions and Underrepresented Populations.\u201d Hamby, of Andover, Massachusetts, is the recipient of 2023-24 fellowship from the University of Maine <a href=\"https:\/\/cugr.umaine.edu\/2023\/11\/08\/cugr-announces-academic-year-fellowship-recipients\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for Undergraduate Research<\/a>, and has been working with faculty mentor <strong>Rebecca Buchanan<\/strong>, associate professor of curriculum, assessment and instruction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Melissa Lyons-Vitalone<\/strong>, a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) student in educational leadership, presented on her dissertation research, \u201cBreaking Down Barriers to Inclusion for Students.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nicole Hatch<\/strong>, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, presented on her dissertation research, \u201cEnhancing Teacher Supervision Through a Therapeutic Lens: A Holistic Approach to Professional Development.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ben Greenlaw<\/strong>, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, presented on his dissertation research, \u201cWhat Makes a Constructive Relationship Between a Principal and Superintendent?\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Steffany Tribou<\/strong>, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, presented on her dissertation research, \u201cMotivating the Future Workforce: High School Extended Learning Opportunities.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sue Sydnor<\/strong>, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, presented on her dissertation research, \u201cSchool Exclusionary Practices: Why Are We Still Suspending Kids?\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Janet Hicks<\/strong>, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, presented on her dissertation research, \u201cSupporting Students of Color in a Predominantly White, Rural School System: Support and Facilitation of an Affinity Group for Students of Color.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kim Andersson<\/strong>, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, presented on her dissertation research, \u201cHow Top-Down Reform Efforts Impact Teachers as Adult Learners.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Janet Corcoran<\/strong>, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, presented on her dissertation research, \u201cParaprofessional Supports and Student Outcomes.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Amy Sullivan<\/strong>, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, presented on her dissertation research, \u201cSEL Initiative Implementation and Teacher Buy-In.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Heather Mitchell<\/strong>, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, presented on her dissertation research, \u201cSupporting Teachers to Support Students: Studying the Impact of Staff Professional Development in the Engagement, Satisfaction, and Retention of Students in Rural Public Schools.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Orlina Boteva<\/strong>, a doctoral student in higher education and director of the Office of International Programs at 91福利, along with associate professor of higher education <strong>Leah Hakkola<\/strong>, presented a study titled \u201cAddressing Secondary Trauma and Burnout in Higher Education Through an Embodied Social Justice Approach,\u201d part of a roundtable session on \u201cHigher Education Journeys: Mentoring, SEL and CAO Stories.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assistant professor of special education<strong> Melissa Cuba<\/strong>, <strong>Buchanan<\/strong> and <strong>Hakkola<\/strong> presented on \u201cSupporting DEIB Endeavors Through a Research-Practice Partnership.\u201d The session covered both the process of developing a research-practice partnership (RPP) between the College of Education and Human Development and a school district in Maine, as well as the emerging findings of the project. The RPP was established to strengthen the district\u2019s diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) efforts. Cuba, Buchanan and Hakkola are leading a collaborative equity review that provides meaningful analysis of qualitative and quantitative data to inform future DEIB efforts within the school district. In addition, the researchers offer a series of professional development opportunities that explore aspects of intercultural competence, culturally sustaining practices and equity-oriented advocacy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assistant professor of educational leadership <strong>Esther Enright<\/strong> participated in the presentation of a study titled \u201cHerding Cats: Learning 91福利 Shared Governance From Faculty Senate Presidents,\u201d part of a session on \u201cAgency and Impacts, Governance and Belonging, the Human Side of Higher
