University of Maine College of Education and Human Development alumna Hillary Hoyt\u00a0(\u201813, elementary education) is one of two Maine teachers to receive a prestigious 2021-2022 Milken Educator Award, created by the Milken Family Foundation to\u00a0celebrate, elevate and activate the teaching profession. Hoyt received the award, which comes with a $25,000 cash prize that she can spend however she wishes, at a surprise assembly on Tuesday at Leroy H. Smith School in Winterport, where she teaches third grade. The recognition garnered news coverage statewide, including in the\u00a0Bangor Daily News<\/a>, the\u00a0Penobscot Bay Pilot<\/a>,\u00a0WABI<\/a>\u00a0(Channel 5), and\u00a0News Center Maine<\/a>. The other Maine teacher to receive a Milken Educator Award this year is Jamie Karaffa, an eighth-grade social studies teacher at Bruce M.
