Historically Black fraternities and sororities launched in the early 1900s when traditional social organizations excluded BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) from joining. \u201cThe same concepts that legalized racial segregation in America, and the power structure that caused [Black Greek Letter Organization] BGLOs\u2019 founders to form these organizations, still are in place today,\u201d according to the study.
