In so doing, the award committee hopes to shed light on the need for producing informational texts for this age group and to raise awareness of the need to build young children\u2019s world knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for this award was\u00a0generously donated to the College of Education and Human Development by A.D. \u201cPete\u201d and Ada Lee Correll through their named professorship in Early Literacy. The Correll Professorship, held by Dr. Susan Bennett-Armistead, seeks to advance early childhood literacy in Maine and the nation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifying Texts will:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have been published in English<\/li>\n<li>Have been published in the United States in the calendar year prior to the deadline date<\/li>\n<li>Have been designed for children birth to age 8<\/li>\n<li>Serve as an exemplar of features and format of Informational Texts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Awards<\/strong><br \/>\nSince 2014, there have been\u00a0two awards: one for books\u00a0for children from birth to age 3, and one for books\u00a0for 4-8 year olds. The Award is a medal that may be reproduced to include on future printings of the book.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Award Application Procedures<\/strong><br \/>\nPublishers and authors with books they wish to submit for consideration should submit one copy to each member of the Award Selection Committee along with a hard copy of the submission form.
