This year, the Maine Department of Education requested input regarding designated teacher shortage areas for federal reporting, and released the following list of K-12 teacher shortage areas for the 2025-2026 school year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>General Elementary\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer Technology\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Early Elementary\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>English for Speakers of Other Languages\u202f\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>English\/Language Arts (middle and secondary levels)\u202f\u00a0\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health Mathematics (middle and secondary levels)\u202f\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Theater <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Science-Physical (secondary level)\u202f\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Science-Life (secondary level)\u202f\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Science (middle level)\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>World Languages\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visual Arts\u202f\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teacher of Students with Disabilities\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals providing classroom instruction in one of these designated areas may qualify for programs that offer deferment of loan repayments or reductions of teaching obligation.
