Dr. Allan is professor of higher education at the University of Maine, where she is the director of the Hazing Prevention Research Lab. She is also the founder and principal of StopHazing, a research-to-practice organization. Allan is the author of three books, and her award-winning scholarship has been published in premier journals, including the Harvard Educational Review, The Journal of Higher Education, the Review of Higher Education, the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, Journal of American College Health, and the Journal of Interpersonal Violence. Allan’s professional experience educating about hazing spans three decades and includes research, prevention, student affairs, and policy work. She was the principal investigator for the National Study of Student Hazing (2008) and has authored and co-authored numerous articles, essays, book chapters, white papers, op-eds, and encyclopedia entries on hazing.

Devin Franklin, M.Ed.

Devin Franklin is a doctoral candidate in the Higher Education program at the University of Maine, where she also serves as the Doctoral Fellow of the Hazing Prevention Research Lab. She is also the Doctoral Research Fellow at StopHazing, where she began as a research-to-practice intern in 2022. Franklin鈥檚 collaborative research has been featured in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence and the Journal of American College Health, and she has presented at numerous national conferences including ASHE, AFA, NASPA Annual, NASPA Strategies, and IACLEA.

Laura Santacrose, DrPH, MPH

Senior Research Associate, Hazing Prevention Research Lab, University of Maine

Laura Santacrose, DrPH, MPH, is a senior research associate with the Hazing Prevention Research Lab at the University of Maine. She also serves as a senior research and practice consultant for StopHazing and as an assistant professor of global and community health at George Mason University. Prior to these roles, Laura worked for over a decade at the Skorton Center for Health Initiatives at Cornell University, where she used a public health approach to develop, implement and evaluate college health initiatives on a variety of interconnected topics including hazing, mental health, suicide, substance use and sexual violence. Her research on college student health has been published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of American College Health, Health Communication, and the American Journal of Public Health, and she has presented at numerous national conferences, including NASPA Strategies and the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting. Laura earned her Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree from George Washington University, her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a concentration in Social Behavior and Community Health from the University at Albany, and her Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Human Development from Cornell University.

StopHazing is a research group led by founder and principal Dr. Elizabeth Allan, professor of higher education at the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development. StopHazing鈥檚 mission is to promote safe and inclusive school, campus, and organizational environments through research, resource sharing, and the development of data-driven strategies for hazing prevention and the promotion of positive and inclusive group climates.
