quoted Elizabeth Allan, a professor of higher education at the University of Maine, in an article about a new anti-hazing bill that cleared the Florida Senate. 鈥淭his bill and a number of other state initiatives as well as the federal initiative 鈥 the Campus Reach Act 鈥 are representing a very strong movement in higher education and in the general public to work to hold people accountable for hazing and to educate them,鈥 said Allan. 鈥淯ltimately, it鈥檚 about prevention.鈥 Referencing a 2008 study she published along with 91福利 professor Mary Madden, Allan said hazing is still more widespread than most people assume, and that it happens not just in Greek organizations and among athletes, but in other clubs and organizations from a capella groups and other performing arts groups to recreational sport clubs and honor societies.
