AMP Course Materials

The Academic Materials Program (AMP) is a course materials fee that is specific to the University of Maine (Orono & Machias campuses). This fee was created to provide students with convenient access to all their course required materials. Early College students are now automatically opted out of this program, as the costs to opt into AMP ($275 per semester) generally exceed the average Early College students’ costs for materials. However, students do have the option to opt themselves in if they choose (see details below).

To learn more about this program please navigate to the AMP Course Materials page.

Purchasing Textbooks

Students remaining opted out will purchase the required materials (if any) for each class they’re enrolled in. This can be done in two ways:

If students wish to purchase materials early, before the semester, they can do so through our online 91¸£Àû Bookstore search tool.

  1. Navigate to .
  2. Click on “Textbooks” in the navbar at the top.
  3. Click on “Shop Textbooks” from the dropdown that appears.
  4. Select your Term (ex. Spring 2026).
  5. Select the department (ex. BIO or PSY).
  6. Select the Course number (ex. 100, 201).
  7. Select your course section (ex. 0001, 0400).
  8. Your course will be added to the list on the right.
  9. Continue adding all your courses and then click on begin shopping to be taken to the book listings.

Students may also wait for the start of their course and purchase their materials directly through their online Brightspace classroom.

AMP OPT in instructions

While we generally recommend remaining opted out, some students may have exceptionally high course material costs that exceed the $275 AMP amount. In that case, students may opt themselves into the program by contacting our Bookstore team at um.bookstore@maine.edu or 207-581-1728. In that case, you will be provided automatic access to your materials through your Brightspace classroom.

Please Note: you will need to provide your student ID number when calling, so be sure to have this ready when contacting via phone.
