We have broodstock populations of cold water fish such as <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/cooperative-aquaculture\/halibut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlantic halibut<\/a>\u00a0under the same roof as <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/cooperative-aquaculture\/yellowtail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">California yellowtail<\/a>, a more tropical fish.\u00a0 With advanced RAS technology and heat recapture, industry partner Sea &amp; Reef Aquaculture can rear marine ornamental reef fish in the <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/cooperative-aquaculture\/maine-aquaculture-business-incubator\/\">Maine Aquaculture Business Incubator<\/a>.\u00a0 With access to both fresh and brackish well water we can grow species such as trout and <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/cooperative-aquaculture\/american-eels-anguilla-rotrata\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American eels <\/a>on one part of the site, while in another area we rear marine invertebrates such as <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/cooperative-aquaculture\/sea-urchins-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sea urchins<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/cooperative-aquaculture\/polychaetes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sand worms<\/a>.\u00a0 With interest growing in <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/cooperative-aquaculture\/sea-vegetables-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sea vegetable aquaculture<\/a>, our species portfolio also includes macroalgae including kelp, dulce and porphyra.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about any of the many species reared at the CCAR facility since 2000, please click on our aquaculture species links.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our facility holds a diversity of cold or warm water marine, brackish and fresh water species.\u00a0 This is possible because we have multiple rearing units, ranging in size from small to very large, located in several greenhouses and insulated buildings equipped with recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).\u00a0 RAS reduces our dependence on external water supplies and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","template":"templates\/page-withsidebar.php","meta":{"_kad_blocks_custom_css":"","_kad_blocks_head_custom_js":"","_kad_blocks_body_custom_js":"","_kad_blocks_footer_custom_js":"","_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-4","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
