Project Summary
The Sustainable Aquaculture Workforce Innovation Center (SAWIC) is a 14,200-square-foot facility designed to strengthen Maine’s aquaculture sector through research, innovation and workforce development. It builds on 91¸£Àû’s leadership in marine science and applied aquaculture research.
Equipped with specialized tank systems and commercial-scale technology, SAWIC will provide hands-on training that mirrors modern aquaculture production environments. Students will gain practical experience to meet growing industry demand.
The center will also serve as a hub for applied research and collaboration among faculty, students and industry partners. It will advance innovation in fish health, nutrition, new species and sustainable production practices.
