We often begin this work with subject matter expertise and a deep commitment to our projects and partners. Yet most of us have little formal training in how to collaborate effectively\, engage across boundaries\, or lead diverse teams. Thus\, often\, we are learning these skills as we are doing the work. \nIn this talk\, Dr. Karen Bieluch will highlight key features of transdisciplinary practice and discuss approaches and challenges to transdisciplinarity through her work with research teams. She will also invite participants to explore a new resource guide to identify practical tips and techniques to strengthen their own work.聽Designing Inspiring Workshops & Courses in Transdisciplinarity 鈥� A Guide聽provides research- and practice-based guidance on building collaborations to address complex problems. \nDr. Karen Hutchins Bieluch聽is the transdisciplinary research strategist at 91福利鈥檚 Mitchell Center\, the Practice-Based Learning Specialist in the Dept. of Environmental Studies at Dartmouth College\, and a program evaluation consultant. She specializes in community鈥搖niversity partnerships\, group communication and collaboration\, and program evaluation\, and was selected by leaders at Stanford University as one of 12 North American researchers to participate in an innovative 鈥淭rain-the-Trainer鈥� program for transdisciplinary researchers. Karen earned her interdisciplinary Ph.D. at 91福利 and was a graduate research assistant with the Mitchell Center鈥檚 Sustainability Solutions Initiative\, where she developed a commitment to connecting the wealth of resources of community partners and universities to address sustainability challenges.

DESCRIPTION:The 4-H Maine App Challenge series will provide an introduction to Tyler Technologies鈥櫬燤aine App Challenge聽and provide guided support for developing an app. This will be a series for ages 13+ that focuses on the foundations of developing a web-based application\, including introduction to the聽Maine App Challenge. Participants will engage in design thinking\, prototyping\, and problem solving all while going through the process of developing their own app. At the end of the series\, participants\, if they choose\, will be able to submit their application to the聽Maine App Challenge聽for聽the chance to earn valuable prizes\, including scholarships totaling $10\,000. In this series\, youth will engage in hands-on learning\, computer programming\, and design with guidance and support from experts at Tyler Technologies and 4-H. SUMMARY:Jen de los Reyes Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Department of Art for a lecture by visiting artist Jen de los Reyes. Her talk will take place on March 10th at 5:30 in IMRC 104 (APPE Space). \nJen de los Reyes is an artist\, educator\, writer\, and community arts organizer. With roots in the Riot Grrrl and DIY music scene\, her practice incorporates pedagogical\, ecological\, and organizational methodologies. She founded and directed Open Engagement\, an international conference on socially engaged art that was active from 2007-2019. She is currently an Associate Professor and the Associate Dean for Diversity and Equity in Architecture\, Art\, and Planning at Cornell University. \nJen鈥檚 talk will focus on her collaborative project with Oscar Rene Cornejo called LAND\, as well as art and ecology. LAND is a site of research\, cultivation\, care\, and conservation. The project combines histories of artists鈥� engagement with land-based practices and techniques with environmental regeneration and conservation to cultivate sustainable futures. \nThis event is supported in part by a grant from the Cultural Affairs/Distinguished Lecture Series Fund. Antonitis 鈥�58\, 鈥�73G Visiting Artist Fund\, the McGillicuddy Humanities Center\, and the Department of Art.\n\nJen delos Reyes is an artist\, educator\, writer\, and community arts organizer. With roots in the Riot Grrrl and DIY music scene\, her practice incorporates pedagogical\, ecological\, and organizational methodologies. She founded and directed Open Engagement\, an international conference on socially engaged art that was active from 2007-2019.聽 She is currently an Associate Professor and the Associate Dean for Diversity and Equity in Architecture\, Art\, and Planning at Cornell University.Jen鈥檚 talk will focus on her collaborative project with Oscar Rene Cornejo called LAND\, as well as art and ecology. LAND is a site of research\, cultivation\, care\, and conservation. DESCRIPTION:Who:聽This program is for all Maine youth ages 14-18. \nWhat:聽Maine 4-H is launching a new session cohort for interested eligible youth for the Maine 4-H Agricultural Ambassadors program!聽 The program is designed for youth ages 14-18 who are interested in any aspect of agriculture.聽 Youth spend time getting to know each other and learn both online and in-person in sessions facilitated by 91福利 4-H Staff and community partners. Sessions will focus on career exploration\, exploring the Maine Food System with farm and production visits around the state\, and building relationships with industry professionals. \nThis season we will visit local Maine Ag businesses like Libby Maple\, Yeti Ridge Farm and more. Transportation assistance for these events may be available upon request. \nIn addition to the multi-week session\, youth will serve in their ambassador role for at least 1 year. DESCRIPTION:Philosophy Department Colloquium\nWho: Nicholaos Jones\, Professor of Philosophy at University of Alabama\nWhen: Thursday\, March 12th\, 4:00-5:30pm\nWhere: Virtue Room\, the Maples \nAbstract: Are all things interdependent? I examine two approaches to an affirmative answer. The first derives interdependence from a kind of cosmic organicism. I trace some brief history for this approach\, especially in relation to modern interpretations of Huayan Buddhism and the metaphor of Indra鈥檚 net. I also critique the approach\, on both philosophical and moral grounds. I introduce a second approach\, which derives interdependence from a kind of cosmic laissez-fairism. I argue that this second approach is more plausible than the first.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Pruning Landscape Trees and Shrubs in Ellsworth
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, participants will learn the Essentials of Pruning Woody Plants (indoors) and practice pruning flowering shrubs and small landscape trees.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf the weather permits\, some hands-on instruction will be held outside. \nPlease be prepared\, and dress for the weather! \nRegistration is required\, and space is limited to 12 participants. SUMMARY:The Mindful Eye: Art & Wellness Series in Lord Hall Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Accompanying the 2026 Faculty Exhibition will be weekly programing called The Mindful Eye. Each Friday from 11-12:30 (February 6\, 13\, 20\, 27\, March 6\, 13)\, the Gallery will offer slow looking exercises\, yoga\, meditation\, and pranayama (breathwork) using the artwork on display as a tool for mindfulness. These events are free and open to all. The Mindful Eye is generously supported by the Alton 鈥�38 and Adelaide Hamm Campus Activities Fund.
