(1996) Boston University<\/h3>\n<h3>Ph.D. (2016) University of Maine<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Research Interests<\/h3>\n<p><strong><em>Systems Biology of Stress Responses<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many aspects of human health can be traced to the ability of cells to sense and respond to infection, injury or other environmental changes.\u00a0 Cells orchestrate these essential biological processes through complex networks of genes, proteins and metabolites.\u00a0 The focus of my laboratory is to utilize genomic and computational approaches to understand the mechanisms of stress responses.\u00a0 Increased understanding of how these networks normally function will inform the development of therapies that restore their function when needed.<\/p>\n<p>Within these networks, genes function together with multiple layers of genetic regulation that include both protein coding and non-coding genes.\u00a0 Network models provide a powerful framework to predict the regulatory roles of genes. \u00a0Current projects involve using genome-level data to build and analyze these networks.\u00a0 A specific focus is on non-coding RNAs, including microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs, that have important regulatory roles in heath and disease.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Featured Publication<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>King BL, Rosenstein MC, Smith A, Dykeman CA, Smith GA, Yin VP.
